Weather Policy

Hear Thunder | Seek Shelter

Your Safety is our Top Priority!

All Members, Staff and Visititors to OC-Seminole:

To ensure the safety of all during lightning storms within a ten-mile radius of the Orlando City Soccer School - Seminole facility. 1900 Seminole Soccer Loop, Sanford, 32771.

  • Weather Forecast: Check local weather forecasts and radar updates before all scheduled activities. Have an idea and plan for what weather may be heading your way. 



  • Lightning Alert: When the lightning alert system detects a lightning strike within a ten-mile radius, the warning sound will activate. 
  • 1 horn notification = lightning detected, seek shelter immediately.



  • Seek Shelter Immediately: This shelter should be a substantial and fully enclosed (DO NOT use the yellow pavilions)
  • Please go directly to your vehicles or seek shelter in the main office.



  • Avoid High-Risk Areas: In the absence of a suitable shelter, avoid high-risk areas like open fields, bodies of water, and isolated structures.



  • Wait for Safety: Wait for 30-Minute All-Clear: After the last observed lightning strike within a ten-mile radius, wait for a minimum of 30 minutes before resuming outdoor activities. The weather monitor should keep track of this period.



  • No Outdoor Activities: During the waiting period, NO outdoor activities should take place, and participants and staff should remain indoors or in their vehicles.
  • This includes the parking spaces in-between fields.



  • Provide Updates: Please continuously monitor the weather conditions and check your devices for updates. Updates will be given in a timely basis directly from your coach.


  • All-Clear Signal: The weather monitor will give an all-clear signal when it's safe to resume activities. Only then should outdoor activities be resumed.


  • Should the Seminole Soccer Complex be closed for the evening a Playmetrics Message/Email (or equivalent) will be sent ASAP to inform you.


By following this lightning procedure, Orlando City Soccer School Seminole can help ensure the safety of everyone involved when lightning is a potential threat within a ten-mile radius of the facility.
